Got in

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 13, 2008, 12:57 PM
I got into the Cleveland institute of art, with a 12k scholarship. Less than I expected. I don't know if I can go now so we'll see. The schools around 50k a year. It sucks thats a lot of debt, I don't know if ill even make a lot coming out of school. I should be able to get some grants from the government I hope. have some big decisions to make in the next couple weeks..

on a happy side not I'm getting close to 10k hits and whoever gets a screen shot of the 10k or closest to it gets a request drawing.

I hope you get into Ringling. I kind of envy you in some ways. I really didn't look around that much when I chose where to go to school. Oh well:)Best of luck, I hope everything works out for you!

But...sorry, I forgot to say this earlier... you should still start learning Maya. I still don't know much--first year here is just a foundation year. We don't get into Maya until second year. The more you know about the program before starting, the better off you'll be.

I actually don't think I'd include an animation or 3D model, just because the faculty sees lots of stuff that very high quality, so... just do lots of life drawing stuff. The faculty head has even said that sometimes if they see an otherwise OK portfolio with bad 3D modeling or animation, they are turned off. They love figure drawing, still lifes...stuff like that. One thing that they kept saying over and over again to me was to do still lifes, but to do really crazy stuff with them. An example was of a boy who drew a stapler in the grass from an angle that made it look like it was going to eat an action figure.

I can try to dig up a pdf of my portfolio when I get home... I think I still have one somewhere. Basically, I included a drawing of my car, of my ex-boyfriend, a few self portraits, some figure drawing, and a couple of still lifes. Nothing too exciting--as long as it's high quality, they'll be good.

You could totally win the big scholarship. That'd be so awesome if 2 people from Wadsworth win it. :D So there, Mrs. Nedoh.

Im really excited. Im pretty set on going there now, ever since I found out how good they are and how highly they are regarded. My boyfriends parents live in Tampa so its really convenient. Im so happy I know someone who goes there! Im going to try to make a kick ass portfolio since I have a lot of time to do so. What kinds of things did you include in yours? Im planning on including an animation, or perhaps a 3d model.
Id definitely like to get together and draw sometime.

btw that movie was hilarious.

I'm in animation. :D :D :D Seriously, that would be SO awesome if you went here!

Ringling is actually pretty bad about scholarships.... Well, I take that back. A whole lot of things are changing, and they are adding to the scholarship fund by taking advantage of all of the rich old farts in Sarasota. By the time you apply, they'll have 2 whole new buildings up, have added 5 new majors, and will probalby have a HUGE scholarship fund.

I got a 10k a year scholarship, and to my knowledge, only one other person in my major got money (7k a year). On the upside, Ringling is cheaper than CIA. And, also, the job placement is just about as good as it gets... Really. So I guess it kind of weighs out.

I come back into town during the first week of May. We should hang out and sketch sometime. Woo hoo! I need to find some art buddies in Wadsville to stay motivated.

and PS... This is what the mystical "third floor" (Computer Animation department) looks like.

Ya I was pretty upset but now I think Im going go to Ringling School of art and Design. Its not certain, but there animation program is the top in the country. It just sucks because I missed there application deadline for this year. I really appreciate all the advice you've given me, it really has been a huge help. your right about needing people to challenge me when I have people better than me around me I always seem to grow so much faster. I will become the best artist I can :D and work my hardest to become so.
~berf:iconberf: Mar 19, 2008, 8:37:53 AM
I think I have to wait a year because I'm to late for applying, but I'm going to major in animation, since there program is so good. What are you majoring in? I'm really excited about going I'm going to try to teach myself Maya Autodesk over the next year to get a head start. Did you get any scholarship money? is that common?
~Remnant1987:iconRemnant1987: Mar 18, 2008, 8:13:00 PM
so you got excepted, that's awesome! I didn't get near as much as I had hoped to get either. but don't feel bad about the whole debt thing, pretty much all of the people that go to CIa complain about the price. not many people are filthy rich. there are opportunities to earn further scholarships once your in school, if you get good grades and all.

don't feel obligated to go any place in particular. try to find a school where you will be pushed to your fullest potential. if you feel that CIA is too much for what its worth then look elsewhere. A good way to decide on a school is by what you see coming out of it. if you are blown away by the work coming from somewhere and you feel like everyone, or at least most people are better than you, then thats the place go. if you are constantly looking up to people then you are going to push yourself far as an artist and learn a lot. you don't learn anything if your work is always surpassing that of others, and you won't push yourself.
